Head: Know God’s Word | Heart: Love God | Hands: Follow God’s Way
Read Matthew 22
Head
Jesus is asked an important question in Matthew 22: “What is the greatest commandment?” Jesus gives a clear answer. He says in verse 37, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind.” Jesus explains that loving God is the most important thing we can do. Everything else we do should come from our love for Him. Jesus adds in verse 39, “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” Jesus teaches that when we love God, it should change the way we treat the people around us, our family, friends, classmates, teammates, and even people who are hard to love.
Heart
Jesus wants us to understand what God really wants from us. God isn’t just looking for rule followers. He wants our hearts. He wants us to love Him because He loved us first. One time at school, a friend said something that really hurt my feelings. I wanted to say something mean back. But I stopped, took a breath, and remembered that Jesus forgives me when I mess up, so I walked away. It wasn’t easy, but afterwards I felt peace in my heart. When we truly love God, our hearts begin to change, and we want to be kind, patient, and caring toward others. Loving God and loving people brings us closer to Jesus.
Hands
We can show our love for God by praying, listening to His Word, and obeying Him. When we treat others the way we want to be treated, we are living the way Jesus taught us. Loving God and loving others is something we can practice every single day. Ask yourself, “How can I love God and love others today?”
Prayer: Dear Jesus, thank You for teaching me what matters most. Help me to love You and love others with all my heart. In Jesus name, Amen.
