Head: Know God’s Word | Heart: Love God | Hands: Follow God’s Way
Read Matthew 24
Head
In our passage today, Jesus warned his disciples that there would be times when the world would feel very dark and mixed up. He tells them that people will say things that aren’t true, and he tells them that there will even be things like wars, sickness, and trouble of all kinds. Jesus wasn’t telling them this to try to scare them. He was telling them so they would NOT be afraid. He wanted them to be ready and understand that when these things happen, he already has a plan. And he wants them to remember that He is always in control.
Heart
Bad news and scary things can make us feel worried, confused, and afraid, but Jesus wants us to feel safe with Him. And He promises to always be with us, even in dark and scary times. If you feel worried or afraid, talking to Jesus ALWAYS helps. The next time you feel scared, whisper this prayer: “Jesus, I trust you”. He hears you, loves you, and wants to bring light and comfort in times of darkness.
Hands
Grab a flashlight or maybe ask to use your parents' cell phone’s flashlight. Turn off the lights for a few seconds, then turn on the flashlight. Did the darkness make you afraid or feel uneasy? Were you happy to see the flashlight shining in the dark room? This is a great example of what Jesus is talking about in Matthew 24. Sometimes, this world can feel very dark and even scary. But we can always remember that Jesus is our light when the world feels dark, and we don’t have to feel afraid. Let Jesus shine bright in your life today!
Prayer: Dear Jesus, thank you for being our light! Thank you for showing us the way and bringing us comfort when we feel afraid. Help us to always remember that you are in control, even when things seem dark. In Your name we pray, Amen.
